Need to create awareness on mentrual health: Jain

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Wednesday emphasised the need for creating menstrual health awareness among the women and the girls through anganwadi workers. He proposed that awareness camps be organised in educational institutions.

Speaking as chief guest while launching a book on menstrual health awareness ‘Mahawari ki Kahani Sachhi Saheli ki Zubaani’ prepared by the Sachhi Saheli in collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Development, Jain said it was the need of the hour that individuals comprising doctors, teachers, journalists, students and educationists come together to take up the challenge of eradicating stigmas surroundings menstruation and sexual abuse in order to make society better and safer for girls and women. Jain said that strengthening and empowering the girl child was essential for society.

The book launch event started with an engaging session by Dr Surbhi Singh who gave a brief explanation on the basics of menstrual health and hygiene while debunking various myths that surround the natural process. She urged aanganwadi workers to break their silence on menstruation by initiating a dialogue on it in homes.
